Best Brussels Sprouts

You might be thinking that “Best” and “Brussel Sprouts,” should not be included in the same sentence. If you try this recipe, you will beg to differ. My mom got this recipe from a friend in Germany, and it is a family favorite.

Best Brussels Sprouts

4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon salt
dash of pepper
2 cups milk*

1. In a small sauce pan, melt the butter on medium high heat.
2. Add the flour, one tablespoon at a time, constantly stirring with a whisk.
3. Stir in the salt and pepper.
4. Pour in the milk, and stir constantly until the mixture is boiling. Turn down to low heat and wait for it to thicken, stirring occasionally.
5. Pour mixture over steamed brussels sprouts.

*I’ve found that it is better to not use fat free milk when making these because the sauce doesn’t thicken.
